I come from a small village in west India and had to struggle a lot before I made it to the United States. This was the first time I travelled outside of my country, so I was worried that I might not belong. ISH welcomed me and helped me do things I had never imagined. When I reached the House on August 9th, 2017, I made friends the very first night in the dining hall and was ready to explore the city. Washington felt like home immediately only because I had enough support at ISH - support from my fellow residents, Board members, and alumni. Every time I would miss home, ISH staff and my fellow residents would help me plan fun opportunities for my housemates - yoga classes, Bollywood nights, and surprise birthday parties. I am just one of thousands of students whose lives have changed because of my experience at International Student House. As we join people around the world in #GivingTuesdayNow, I am asking you to please give generously to ISH during these unprecedented times so the House can continue to be a home for many generations of future students.
I am going to work in London soon and it would not have been possible if I was not at ISH. Why? Because it helped me prepare for my interviews, applications, and journeys along the way. It has impacted me so much that I have decided to continue to stay in the community of International Student House, but this time in London. I am sure it will be another wonderful experience and will leave another long lasting impact on my life. Thank you for your support now, during this critical time and always, Raghu, 2017-19
