About Dr. Amineh Hoti,
In “Gems and Jewels: The Religions of Pakistan” Amineh Hoti opens the door to take the reader on a voyage of discovery of the untold story of “the Other”. Hoti shows us a land and a people of fascinating depth and sophistication.
Through her meetings and experiences with diverse religious communities and her exploration of religious figures from different faiths who transcended the boundaries and walls of their specificities, Hoti uncovers the multi-layered culture of peoples of diverse faiths whose religions preach peaceful coexistence and whose example is an inspiration to us all.
Her telling of the story of the diverse social constituents of the diverse religious Other and of the humanity in each and everyone, cannot but lead us to the firm conclusion that the concept of respect for other living creatures and non-violence is present in all religions, especially in Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
“Gems and Jewels”, by Dr. Amineh Hoti, is a glorious read; accessible, enjoyable, a radiating resonance of vivid human images, of voices, faces, and places, and a celebration of the richness of diversity that connects us with the beauty of the different and of the human character at its best.
